Computer Association of Nepal (CAN) was established in December 1992 as an autonomous, non-political, non-partisan, non-profitable and service-oriented organization.It was formed with the involvement of professionals,specialists,manufacturers,institutions and related organizations of Computer and Information Technology within the country.

Since its inception, CAN has been active in its set objectives to promote ICT as an engine of growth for Nepal. The strategic efforts played by CAN for IT industry as a private sector's apex body is well acknowledged and appreciated in Nepal.CAN is and honored partner for progress with High Level Commission on Information Technology(HLCIT) under the direct leadership of the Prime Minister of Nepal. Thus, CAN plays an important role in the formulation and implementation of IT policies in the country.

It has been CAN's endeavor to strengthen the ICT sector of Nepal and to make the industry's presence felt both at the national and the international arenas at a greater level than ever before.To do so CAN has been undertaking initiatives including policy lobbying,organizing awareness programs, workshops, seminars, training, R&D etc. Its annual event "CAN Info-Tech", a sole showcase of the ICT in Nepal, has over the years become the country's most important and well-attended event. A two days international conference is also organized to supplement the event.

MISSION STATEMENT

CAN's mission is to place Nepal on the Global IT map.It aims to do so by:

  • building ICT capability within Nepal.

  • being prominent association representing ICT industry in Nepal.

OBJECTIVES

Its main objective is to increase awarenes about ICT in Nepal and also to support growth of Nepali ICT industry.The objectives of CAN as mentioned in its constitution are as follows:

  • To assist in the utilization,enhancement and promotion of computers and information technology within the country and help to develop strategies to meet the necessary requirenents for the development of literacy and skills regarding computer science.

  • To provide and protect the necessary rights and privileges, benefits to individuals, institutions, companies and organizations affiliated to CAN.

  • To provide support and facilities to all general,corporate and honorary member of CAN.
